German Federal Council (Bundesrat) Approves EU Intracompany Transferee Directive

The German Federal Council approved the implementation of the EU Intracompany Transferee (ICT) Directive with two new work permit categories namely the ICT Permit and the Mobile ICT Permit. The ICT Directive was first implemented in the EU in May 2014 but only passed in Germany this year.

The ICT permit will allow non-EU/EEA qualified managers, specialist and graduate trainees who are temporarily assigned outside the EU to transfer to the same corporate group office in Germany for over 90 days. The Mobile ICT permit will apply to people with an ICT permit issues in other EU countries. These new laws will be effective mid-2017.
